Biography
Kejia Liu (b. 1984) is a Chinese painter whose training combines Chinese art and design with the German painting tradition, through her studies in Stuttgart.
After years as a university lecturer, she moved to Beijing in 2021, where her work has received wide institutional recognition: from a national textbook she contributed to, to a work acquired by the Chinese Navy, to recent international exhibitions and biennials.
The core of her current research comes from a deep personal experience: a neurological treatment (TMS) that induced phosphenes in her — luminous hallucinations generated by the brain itself, with no external light source — turning a clinical and existential experience into an entire abstract pictorial language.
