Wentao Peng

Biography

Wentao Peng (China, 1997) works between traditional gongbi painting and contemporary visual culture, using rice paper and the media of the Chinese painting tradition.

In the Object series, the artist turns the iconic Jellycat bunny into a symbolic device: its surface is covered with fragments of notes, textbooks and exams — the material traces of the artist’s own education. Through the motif of “wrapping”, Wentao Peng reflects on the distance between what shapes us from the outside and what, quietly, truly nourishes us from within.
